How We Help
Inpatient Services
Crisis Stabilization & Baker Act Receiving
Our inpatient mental health services provide essential care for adults in crisis, available 24/7.
The Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit is a 36-bed, non-hospital inpatient facility designed to provide short-term, voluntary, and involuntary care for individuals facing a mental health crisis.
Our unit offers comprehensive evaluation and treatment for individuals who meet the criteria outlined in the 
Florida Mental Health Act (Baker Act), ensuring immediate and compassionate care when it’s needed most.
We help adults experiencing:
- Suicidal thoughts, severe depression, or anxiety
- Hallucinations or disconnection from reality
- Substance use concerns
- Trauma or emotional distress
- Family, work, or interpersonal crises
Florida Mental Health Act (Baker Act)
The Florida Mental Health Act, commonly known as the Baker Act, is a state law that allows for the involuntary examination and treatment of individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. The Act ensures those who fit the criteria can receive the immediate care and assessment they need.
Criteria for Involuntary Examination Under the Baker Act:
An individual may be taken into custody and transported for involuntary examination under the Baker Act if any of the following conditions are met:
- Danger to Self: The individual expresses a threat to their own life, such as thoughts of suicide or self-harm.
- Danger to Others: The individual poses a threat of harm to others, such as violent or aggressive behavior due to a mental illness.
- Inability to Care for Self: The individual is unable to meet their own basic needs and make decisions regarding their care and may suffer from neglect due to mental illness.

Outpatient Services
Our adult outpatient services address mental health, psychiatric, and emotional challenges. Led by experienced professionals, we provide expert support, clinical guidance, and coping strategies to help individuals navigate both acute crises and long-term issues, offering a path to healing and well-being.
Therapy & Counseling
We offer brief outpatient therapy for adults, couples, and families to address mental health, substance use, and emotional challenges. Our solution-focused approach helps individuals manage psychiatric disorders, life stressors, and co-occurring conditions. Our therapists are highly skilled and trained in various evidence-based techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and CBT-I (CBT for Insomnia), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Our Therapy & Counseling Services Include:
- Individual Therapy – Support for mental health challenges.
- Couples & Family Therapy – Addressing relationship and family issues.
- Solution-Focused Counseling – Short-term therapy for immediate concerns.
- Psychiatric & Emotional Support – Care for emotional and psychiatric conditions.
- Substance Use & Co-occurring Disorder Treatment – Specialized care for mental health and addiction.
Direct Psychiatric Evaluation
We offer direct access to a comprehensive and holistic Psychiatric Evaluation for individuals in need of urgent psychiatric medication management services to support active symptoms of mental health and/or co-occurring illness. Psychiatric medication services may also include referral to other comprehensive and holistic services, such as the addition of therapy, case management, group therapy, and other treatment options for co-occurring diagnoses.
Medication Assisted Treatment
We offer direct access to a comprehensive and holistic Addiction Medicine Evaluation, individual therapy, case management, and recovery support services for adults with Alcohol Use Disorder and Opioid Use Disorder. Our programs include holistic treatment and access to inpatient and outpatient induction for OUD. Our programs address co-occurring disorders.
Holistic & Integrated Care
We believe in treating the whole person. Our wellness-based services complement traditional behavioral health treatments, supporting both mental and physical well-being.
Holistic Therapy Options Include:
- Art Therapy – Creative expression for emotional healing.
- Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy – Healing through interaction with horses.
- Music Therapy – Using music for mental and emotional well-being.
- Pet Therapy – Animal-assisted support for healing and emotional balance.
Additionally, we offer an Onsite Pharmacy for convenient medication services, ensuring comprehensive care for all aspects of health.
Group Therapy
At David Lawrence Centers, we offer group therapy programs designed to provide peer support, coping skills, and mental health education for adults struggling with mental health and substance use disorders. These programs address specific needs, and participants must meet clinical criteria to join.
Wellness Group
The Wellness Group is designed to support adults with psychotic disorders and/or substance use disorders in regaining vital life skills. This ongoing group therapy session is held weekly and provides a safe, supportvie environment where participants can work on building practical skills to improve their overal well-being.
Anger Management Group
The Anger Management Group is for individuals struggling with healthy anger expression. Participants learn stress management, communication, and non-aggressive alternatives. This 8-session group is not for those dealing with intimate partner violence.
Intensive Outpatient (IOP) for Substance Use Disorder
Provides structured, evidence-based therapy in a non-residential setting. Participants attend multiple group sessions per week focused on relapse prevention, coping strategies, education, and peer support, allowing them to maintain daily responsibilities while receiving comprehensive treatment. Typically 18-24 sessions.
Veterans Services
At David Lawrence Centers, we offer specialized support for Veterans struggling with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and substance use. Our program focuses on helping Veterans and their families improve well-being and reintegrate into daily life with the care and resources they deserve.
Community Services
We offer comprehensive community services to adults who are living with diagnosed mental health disorders, including those with co-occurring conditions that impact their ability to function in daily life.
Case Management
Our Case Management Services help individuals achieve independence by supporting them in areas such as basic living skills, problem-solving, medication management, socialization, and employment. Services are provided in the client’s natural environment, with regular monitoring to ensure progress and connect individuals to community resources.
Affordable Housing
David Lawrence Centers offers 24 affordable housing units for adults with mental health disorders in Collier County at two locations: Housing Alternatives of SWFL in Golden Gate Estates and Collier Housing Alternatives in East Naples. These HUD-funded residences provide safe living environments with onsite management and emergency contact services.
Specialty Court Services
David Lawrence Centers offers specialized court services for adult mental health, developed in partnership with Collier County law enforcement and the judicial system. These services are designed to help individuals with mental health challenges regain stability and rebuild their lives, while ensuring compliance with Collier County regulations.
Mental Health Court
The Mental Health Court supports adults with mental illness by offering treatment and Case Management services. We help individuals stabilize and rehabilitate instead of facing incarceration.
Drug Court
The Adult Drug Court Program offers an alternative to incarceration for individuals with substance use disorders. Participants undergo drug testing, therapy, and case management to support a drug- and alcohol-free life.
Veterans Court
Veterans Court offers treatment for veterans with military-related mental health issues, traumatic brain injury, or substance use disorders, providing alternatives to incarceration and supporting their reintegration into society.
Deferred Prosecution Programs
Deferred Prosecution Programs offer mental health and substance use interventions for adults referred by probation. These programs divert individuals from the criminal justice system to treatment rather than punishment.
Forensic & Competency Restoration Services
Forensic Services assist adults charged with felonies who are incompetent to stand trial due to mental health disorders. Competency Restoration includes a state-approved curriculum to restore mental capacity for legal proceedings.
