David Lawrence Centers hosts educational opportunities throughout May in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month

NAPLES, FL (May 10, 2024) – David Lawrence Centers for Behavioral Health (DLC), Collier County’s only comprehensive, not-for-profit behavioral health provider, will host a series of virtual educational opportunities during May in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month.

These free 20-minute webinars are open to the public and are designed to encourage open dialogue and increased understanding around mental health. Sessions will focus on a variety of topics including stress management and self-care strategies, bullying prevention, instilling confidence in youth and social media safety. Self-confidence fluctuates within adolescence—a critical time for growth and development. Learn tips to support them through these challenging years and assist in their ability to develop key skills for their personal growth and self-esteem.

̶ Shining the Light on Youth Mental Health

Tuesday, May 14, 12:15-12:35 p.m. and Thursday, May 16, 2:00-2:20 p.m.

The state of youth mental health remains a crisis in the U.S., with the prevalence and severity of challenges topping the charts. This webinar raises awareness on common mental health concerns in young people and the difficulties they face in current times.

Facing obstacles in life is inevitable. Some of them can be incredibly destructive to a person’s mental, and overall, health. The capacity to be resilient and overcome these times of adversity is imperative to heal and grow. Learn about risk and protective factors and tips to build resiliency.

Prevention tactics are applied in so many ways throughout life, such as brushing our teeth to prevent cavities, and this same concept can be applied to mental health. Learn daily tips and techniques to prioritize mental wellness.

 

̶ The Impact of Alcohol on Women’s Health

Tuesday, May 21, 12:15-12:35 p.m.

Drinking alcohol is a widely accepted practice by many cultures. Due to this, many may overlook the impact alcohol has on their lives. This webinar discusses the health risks of moderate to heavy consumption in biological females and shares low-risk practices to improve long-term physical and mental wellness.

This webinar goes through what addiction is and the development of an addiction through different stages. Learn about ways to support and aid an individual with an addiction by using healthy coping strategies and other resources throughout the community.
