Drug Addiction Recovery Stories: The Power to Change Lives

Drug Addiction Recovery Stories: The Power to Change Lives

Drug addiction is an ever-growing problem in both our local Southwest Florida community as well as the country overall. However, there is hope and with hope, there is recovery. The stories of individuals recovering from drug addiction can be a source of inspiration for many. Through sharing their stories, these former drug addicts can turn others’ lives around.

When going through any sort of life event, it’s helpful to know that there are others that are currently in or have been in your situation. When you are able to read stories of similar struggles—along with the recovery from those struggles–you may just find what you need to break through.

Crossroads Alumni: Empowering Others

Here at Crossroads, we understand the importance of hearing recovery stories from others suffering from drug addiction. The David Lawrence Centers Alumni Association consists of graduates of the Crossroads Residential, Intensive Outpatient, and Drug Court programs.

These Alumni members assist individuals with substance use problems through sharing their stories and offering support. Once an individual has successfully completed the appropriate program with Crossroads or Drug Court, he or she will have the opportunity to join the Alumni Association, which offers:

  • Peer support
  • Monthly onsite Alumni 12-Step Recovery Meeting
  • Monthly business meetings
  • Recovery-oriented volunteer, outreach, and service work and activities such as picnics and car washes
  • Alumni Representation at Drug Court and 12-Step Meetings
  • Annual Recovery Monthly Celebration and other activities

Former David Lawrence Centers Nurse Featured in Naples Daily News

Phillip Holda, a resident of Fort Myers, used to consider downing a fifth of vodka a part of his daily life. After realizing that his alcohol abuse was out of hand, he decided to make a change.

After completing the residential detoxification and addiction treatment program through Crossroads, Philip became a recovery nurse for the David Lawrence Centers .

“The Crossroads program gave me the tools and the time to figure out what I needed to do to maintain continuous sobriety,” he said. “I was blessed with the gift of desperation so I ate up all that Crossroads had to offer and I took every suggestion and recommendation to heart.” – Philip Holda NaplesNews.com)

As a nurse for the David Lawrence Centers, Philip had the opportunity to give back to Crossroads and the David Lawrence Centers by sharing his story, offering support, and providing hope.
