Mucinex Stolen from Lee County Drugstores

Dextromethorphan use is a growing problem among teens, who are consuming large amounts of cough medicine in order to get high off the drug. After the passing of a new Florida law prohibiting the sale of cough medicine to anyone under 18 earlier this month, thousands of dollars of Mucinex DM have been reported stolen from South Fort Myers drug stores.

According to StopMedicineAbuse.org, 1 in 30 teens have reported using the drug to get high. While Dextromethorphan is safe and effective as a cough remedy, the drug in higher doses can have hallucinatory effects, as well as increasing risks of overdose.
