Driven to Provide Exceptional Care

David Lawrence Center’s Community Services cover a wide range of things — including driving to all corners of Collier County’s nearly 2,000 square miles.

That requires reliable transportation, and that’s why we’re grateful for a recent $15,000 gift from the Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church Community Grant Commission. The grant will be used to buy two pre-owned automobiles to help provide children, adolescents, and their families with in-home, in-school, and community-based treatment services.

Rather than put all that wear and tear on the staff’s personal vehicles, it will be a huge help to have two “company cars” to make our Community Services even better.

CEO Scott Burgess says the new vehicles will help “deliver our treatment staff directly to the families who, due to a variety of treatment barriers, otherwise couldn’t access the care their children desperately need.”

That includes one local mother and her three children who moved into a new apartment but with few furnishings — and no vehicle. After assessing their needs, our case manager found some donated items and made three trips over two weeks to deliver the items.

Our team also uses the staff cars to help children and families access needed services — driving to appointments, schools, courthouses, wherever needed.

Erin, one of our clinicians, says the new vehicles have “improved my capacity to accommodate parents who have difficult schedules, and their ability to participate in treatment services with their teen. In a single day, I may meet with a client in Immokalee, attend a medication management appointment in Naples, and travel to a therapy appointment on Marco Island.”

“I feel safer in my company car,” adds Diana, a case manager. “I know that our DLC vehicles are well maintained, dependable, and safe.”

And Rose, another case manager, says the new vehicles “make such a difference to our children and families, and their ongoing wellness.”

A huge thank you to Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church for this generous gift!
