Understanding Cocaine Addiction

Cocaine also referred to as coke, blow and crack is a powerful and highly addictive stimulant drug. While it has rare medical applications as a local anesthetic, recreational use is illegal and extremely dangerous. Cocaine usually appears as a fine white powder, though crack cocaine is a solid form that is smoked.

Why Cocaine Becomes Addictive

Cocaine rapidly increases dopamine levels. This short-lived high encourages users to take more of the drug in quick succession, often leading to binge use. Over time, tolerance builds and dependency develops, making it extremely difficult to stop without professional help.

At David Lawrence Centers for Behavioral Health, we understand the neurological and psychological grip of this addiction and offer comprehensive support to help break the cycle.

Recognizing the Signs of Cocaine Addiction

Cocaine use affects the body and mind in several ways. Prolonged use can lead to chronic nasal damage, lung issues, raising the risk of stroke, heart attack, and organ damage. Cocaine addiction often disrupts relationships, careers, finances, and legal standing, while also contributing to significant mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, paranoia, and cocaine-induced psychosis. In severe cases, it can lead to seizures or fatal overdose.

  • Mood swings, paranoia, or hypersensitivity to light and sound
