David Lawrence Centers Receives $15,000 Grant from Arthrex to Expand Care Coordination for Most Vulnerable Citizens

Naples, Fl – David Lawrence Centers (DLC), Collier County’s only comprehensive, not-for-profit mental health and addiction recovery treatment center serving children, adults and families, is pleased to announce that Arthrex, a global leader in orthopedic product development and medical education headquartered in Naples, awarded the Center a $15,000 grant to expand Care Coordination.

Arthrex is committed to making positive contributions in medicine and the communities it serves. Its charitable focus areas include health and wellness, education, community, and foreign aid.

Care Coordination is an innovative and integrated approach to help uninsured individuals with high needs who are recidivistic in hospitals, the justice system, and behavioral health settings. Care coordination is the cornerstone of many successful healthcare redesign efforts. It involves bringing together various providers to coordinate health services, patient needs, and information to help better achieve treatment goals.

Care Coordination services assist individuals with significant mental health and/or substance use disorder challenges in achieving an optimal level of independence by coordinating support in the areas of basic living skills, problem solving, medication management, socialization, and finding and maintaining employment if appropriate. These services are provided to individuals in community and office-based settings and include assessment, support, and linkage of clients into treatment and into a variety of needed community resources.

The program was launched last year as a result of funding received from Central Florida Behavioral Health Network (CFBHN), a nonprofit that contracts with community treatment centers to provide publicly funded mental health and substance use services in the SunCoast counties. CFBHN distributes funds from the state of Florida’s Department of Children and Families (DCF) in its network for innovative solutions to the social, economic, and individual health and wellness problems that impact community members’ lives.

The program was so successful that DLC wanted to expand the publicly funded program to help engage more people in need. DLC works with local businesses and community leaders to encourage support of its vital mission and enhance Collier County’s health, wellness, and safety.

David Lawrence Centers CEO Scott Burgess said, “We are very grateful Arthrex’s continued investment in our programs. Our biggest challenge is meeting the growing need for services in an under-resourced system of care. By supplementing state funding with private donations from organizations like Arthrex, we are able to expand proven, evidenced-based programs and save more lives.”
