David Lawrence Centers to Host Mood Disorder Expert Kay Redfield Jamison at 2017 Sound Minds ™ Mental Health Symposium March 25, 2017

Naples, Fl – David Lawrence Centers, Collier County’s only comprehensive, not-for-profit mental health and substance use treatment facility serving children, adults and families, along with our education partner the Naples Children & Education Foundation, are pleased to present the third annual Sound Minds™ Mental Health Symposium on March 25, 2017 at Moorings Presbyterian Church (791 Harbour Dr, Naples) at 3:00 pm. Immediately following the symposium will be a Meet the Speaker reception featuring live music, wine and hors d’oevres at 5:00 pm. This year’s event will focus on brain health and will feature renowned psychologist, educator and author Kay Redfield Jamison, PhD as the keynote speaker. The VIP Wine Dinner which will include an initiate opportunity to dine with Dr. Jamison will be held on March 24 at Conservancy of Southwest Florida (1495 Smith Preserve Way). Jamison will be available for a book signing for ticket holders at both events.

Kay Redfield Jamison has authored five books and is widely considered a leading authority on mood disorders, bipolar disorder and suicide. She became the public face of bipolar disorder after her bestselling 1995 memoir, An Unquiet Mind, explored her own battles with the disease. Her book, Touched with Fire, about the profound and surprising links between bipolar disorder and creativity, was made into a movie in 2015 staring Katie Holmes.

Jamison has served as a professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine for the last 25 years and has acted as a professor of mood disorders and co-director of the Johns Hopkins University Mood Disorders Center since 2005.

Jamison’s noted awards include TIME magazine “hero of medicine” in 1997; American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Research Award in 1996; Mental Health Association of Illinois Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002; and the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression Silver Ribbon Award in 2007.

Jamison has made appearances on Larry King Live and The Oprah Winfrey Show.

The Sound Minds event chair is Nancy McCaskey, wife of former Chicago Bears Chairman Michael McCaskey, and creator of the Bears Care charitable foundation. The foundation has issued charitable grants totaling over $13.8 million since 2005. Mrs. McCaskey studied Developmental Psychology at Harvard University and obtained her Master’s Degree in Social Ecology at the University of California, Irvine. Fellow scholars, mental health advocates and David Lawrence Centers board members Michael Reagen, PhD, Russell Budd and Patt Schneider, PhD also serve on the Sound Minds committee. Their combined expertise is sure to be an invaluable asset in shaping an outstanding educational opportunity for attendees. CEUs will be available to professionals.

There are a variety of ticket options available: All Access Pass is $400 per person and includes the VIP Wine Dinner, Symposium and Meet the Speaker Reception; the VIP Wine Dinner is $300 per person, the Symposium only is a $10 suggested donation; and the Meet the Speaker Reception is $125 per person.
