DLC Receives Community Foundation of Collier County COVID-19 Assistance Grant

Naples, Fl – David Lawrence Centers for Behavioral Health (DLC), Collier County’s only comprehensive, not-for-profit behavioral health treatment center serving children, adults and families, has received a $30,000 COVID-19 Assistance Grant from the Collier Comes Together Fund, a charitable fund of the Community Foundation of Collier County (CFCC). The grant will be used to fund communications about the psychological impacts of this pandemic, including post-traumatic stress, anxiety and depression, which can also trigger heavier consumption of drugs and alcohol.

The goal of this grant is to educate the community about what warning signs and symptoms to be aware of so individuals can intervene early and avoid life-threatening crises such as suicide and overdose which have already been plaguing our nation in recent years.

The grant will also help promote DLC’s new virtual care services so that children, families and adults in need know they have safe, immediate online access to vital and potentially life-saving behavioral health care now and into the future.

“Beyond the fear of getting sick, many are facing extreme economic stress, job uncertainty, worries about children and elderly parents, and other family pressures,” said Scott Burgess DLC CEO. “This generous funding will help bring awareness to the ongoing and lasting behavioral health impacts of this health crisis and how to get help. We are forever grateful for the CFCC and their supporters for understanding the importance of having good mental health for individuals, families and communities. DLC is blessed that CFCC has responded so quickly to the needs of our most vulnerable citizens.”

CFCC activated emergency relief funds from the Collier Comes Together Fund to collect donations to aid in Coronavirus relief. The funds will complement the work of public health officials and expand local capacity to address the outbreak as effectively as possible.

These funds will help rapidly deploy basic needs resources to healthcare nonprofit organizations and will help support their programs as well as their staff at the front lines of our community’s coronavirus outbreak.

“Since we activated our Collier Comes Together Fund for Coronavirus Relief, we have distributed over $600,000 in grants from the Collier Comes Together fund and donor-advised funds for COVID-19 relief in areas of health, mental health, education, legal assistance, housing, and food,” said Eileen Connolly- Keesler President, & CEO Community Foundation of Collier County. “DLC is on the frontlines of this health crisis helping those struggling with increased mental health and substance use and we are committed to supporting the wellness of those struggling with these challenges in the community months.”
