DAVID LAWRENCE CENTER INSTALLS NEW BOARD OFFICERS

Naples, Fl – The David Lawrence Centers, Collier County’s only comprehensive, not-for-profit mental health and substance use treatment facility serving children, adults and families, is pleased to announce the installation of the following new officers of the Board of Directors.

Douglas Johnson, Ph.D., a retired senior executive in health administration, will serve as Chairman. He has been a board member since 2009 and has previously served as President, Vice President and Secretary. He is also the Chairman of the Clinical Programs Committee.

Johnson was the President of Sentara Healthcare in Virginia, which operates more than 100 care giving sites including seven acute care hospitals, and includes nearly 400 primary care and non-primary care specialty physicians. Johnson, a retired Rear Admiral, also served as Navy Assistant Surgeon General supervising the reserve medical component of the Navy and Marine Corps. He is a graduate of Greater Naples Leadership and has served on a variety of healthcare related boards in Virginia.

Brian V. McAvoy, Esq., a corporate and trust and estates attorney and partner at Roetzel, will serve as Vice-Chairman. McAvoy has been a Board Member since 2010 and previously served as Treasurer. He also is the Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee and has served as member of the Finance and the Clinical and Administrative Practices Committee.

McAvoy has been practicing law in Naples and New York for over 25 years. He is board-certified in Wills, Trusts, and Estates by the Florida bar.

Pablo X. Veintimilla, Market President of Stonegate Bank, will serve as Treasurer. Veintimilla has been a Board Member since 2007 and previously served as Vice President of the board and President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. He is currently serves as the Chairman of the Finance Committee.

Veintimilla has over 20 years of experience in finance and accounting in both the for profit and not for profit industries including leadership posts at several local financial institutions and as Chief Financial Officer at the Naples Philharmonic. He is a graduate of Leadership Collier and also currently serves as Treasurer of the Immokalee Foundation and serves on the Board of the Lee Memorial Health System Foundation.

Robert A. Morantz, M.D., a retired military and private practice neurosurgeon as well as a Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Kansas, will continue to serve as Secretary. A board Member since 2008, Morantz is also currently the Chair of the Governance Committee and a member of the Clinical Programs Committee.

Morantz has held a variety of leadership positions within the medical field, including serving as Past President of the Missouri State Neurological Society, Vice Chairman for the Missouri Board of Health and a Board Member of the Missouri Life Sciences Advisory Board, the Mid America Medical Advisory Board and the Joint Section on Tumors of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. His local community service includes currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Neighborhood Health Clinic and Greater Naples Leadership.

David Lawrence Center’s other distinguished Board of Directors include Russell Budd, Scott Burgess, Michael Reagan, PhD,  L. Patt Schneider, Ph.D., William O’Neill, Esq., Lieutenant George Welch, Viola Steffan and honorary board member Polly Keller.
