Laird’s career was based in the investment world. Most of her professional life was spent at U.S. Trust, mainly in New York but also in Naples. She was an investment manager, division manager, as well as a public mutual fund manager. She retired from U.S. Trust in Naples in 2008. She also was the President and CEO of Rockefeller & Co. for four years in the 1990’s. She served on the board of Burlington Resources, a public oil and gas company based in Houston, Texas from 1996 to 2006 as well as on its audit committee.

She currently serves as a director for the Evercore Equity Fund based in New York. On the charitable front, before moving to Naples in 2001, Laird served on Planned Parenthood boards in Long Island and New York City. She also served as a trustee of Barnard College, her alma mater, for ten years. Since retiring in 2008, Laird has focused more on direct service volunteer work with Planned Parenthood and the Shelter for Abused Women and Children. She served on the board of the Community Foundation of Collier County from 2014-2017 and during that time chaired the Investment Committee.
