We need more crisis support, beds, and services to meet the demand.

Here in Southwest Florida, we are experiencing a critical shortage of beds for those in our community who are struggling the most. At David Lawrence Centers for Behavioral Health (DLC), we have 30 licensed beds in our crisis unit. But most days, we need 45 or more.

On one recent day, we had 56 clients needing beds. The increase in demand is especially concerning, given that DLC is the only community resource to provide this type of intensive and comprehensive care.

To meet those pressing needs, we must expand — and quickly. Most urgently, we need to add 15 more beds, bringing our total up to 45 beds — which will entail construction costs to build the extra space.

The expansion construction costs and beds will cost $700,000. And I am confident that with the generosity of this community — with the kindness of friends like you — we can raise those funds fairly quickly. So I hope you will give today.

Stress levels have certainly been high for all of us. We already had two full-blown epidemics — opioid overdoses and suicides — when the pandemic arrived. There’s only so much stress and anxiety people can handle.

But that is exactly why DLC is here — to provide behavioral health services and care to anyone who needs it, regardless of their ability to pay. And that’s why we need your help today. We need to be able to accommodate any of the children, family, and adults in our community in distress.

Thank you in advance for coming to their rescue.
