COVID-19 has impacted us all. The grief has led to a mental health crisis, which DLC is experiencing first-hand. For several years, we have been hit hard by the double epidemics of opioid use and rising suicide rates—and now, for almost two years, a pandemic layered on top.
More children and adults than ever are coming to us requiring immediate help. Many of these individuals in crisis need to be admitted into a bed for further stabilization. And for a long time, we have been running out of beds.
We are licensed for 30 beds at DLC, but we are often filled to overflowing. One day, we had almost twice as many clients—56—on our campus who needed a crisis bed.
We have relocated some of our outpatient and administrative service areas, including our Access Center, to make more space for those in critical need of a bed and expert care.
However, to keep up with the demand, we need to add at least 15 more beds.
