Brooke Shields to Appear at the Annual Sound Minds® Celebration to Raise Critical “Access to Care” Funding for DLC

Naples, Fl – As the demand for mental health and substance use services continues to skyrocket in Collier County, David Lawrence Centers for Behavioral Health (DLC), the county’s only comprehensive, not-for-profit behavioral health provider, will utilize its annual signature event, Sound Minds®, to raise critical funding intended to provide access to care for children, families, and adults. This moving and thought-provoking event will feature actress, model, author, and entrepreneur Brooke Shields.

John and Dr. Amy Quinn will serve as the Sound Minds chairs and their Fountain 33 Foundation is the presenting sponsor. The Sound Minds education partner is Naples Children & Education Foundation.

Brooke Shields started her career at only 11 months of age, when she was selected as the Ivory Snow Baby. She began her extensive film career at age 9, and rapidly gained fame after starring in Louis Malle’s “Pretty Baby,” and the coming-of-age tales “Blue Lagoon” and “Endless Love.” As a model, Shields has graced the covers of hundreds of magazines, most notably Time Magazine as the “Face of the Eighties.”

Shields has maintained successful and critically acclaimed television and theatre careers, and she was recently the subject of the Emmy-nominated documentary “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields.” She is the best-selling author of several books, including the critically acclaimed “Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression.”

In a conversation with Sound Minds moderator Jennifer Trammell, Shields will deftly navigate between heartfelt and humorous. She will speak candidly with attendees about her career trajectory and life in the public eye and her own experiences as a mother. Attendees will find her story resonates with their own lives, as Shields talks openly about finding the mental and emotional strength to live life to the fullest.

“Hearing from someone with lived experience who has found hope, help, and purpose in helping others find their way, is why Amy and I are proud to Chair this year’s Sound Minds event,” said John Quinn, Managing Director of Fountain 33.

“This event not only shines a spotlight on mental health awareness, but also reminds us that mental health issues can impact anyone at any time,” added Dr. Amy Quinn. “The event is so powerful because it helps to reduce the stigma around talking openly about our struggles with mental health.”
