A Mindful Mission: 7 Ways for Faith-based Organizations to Support DLC’s Mission

By: Jessica Liria, MS, Prevention and Education Manager

Faith and spirituality play an important role in the prevention and recovery of behavioral health challenges. For individuals living with mental health and substance use concerns, support and connection makes a world of difference. Loving one another as we love ourselves and spreading the message of our chosen higher power provides those that are struggling with hope and comfort. Mental health and substance use are often highly stigmatized. With an open heart and open mind, our community can make a positive impact in the lives of those facing these challenges.

There are many ways for faith-based communities to advocate for those living with behavioral health needs:

1. Invite DLC to Speak

With a variety of presentation and training opportunities, DLC can schedule a free educational opportunity at your location. With a knowledgeable prevention and education team, DLC can raise awareness among all ages, including youth groups. We will work with you to arrange a speaking event that fits your needs.

 2. Attend an Event

Through our website, DLCenters.org/Events, you can explore the upcoming opportunities to learn more about behavioral health. From virtual presentations to trainings to fundraising events, there is always a way to get involved!

3. Make a Referral

DLC offers a comprehensive range of services for youth and adults through outpatient treatment, residential programming, and community-based services. Connect those who may need services with the DLC Access Center, which can be reached at 239-455-8500 and is located on the main campus at 6075 Bathey Lane, Naples, FL 34116. You could also request that someone from our outreach team meet at your location to review services and provide you with brochures and other referral materials.

4. Host a Fundraiser

Community members are encouraged to host fundraisers in support of DLC through our Fundraise for Hope program. With over 9,000 individuals served each year, many of whom are uninsured or are underinsured, these proceeds will benefit the uncompensated care DLC provides to clients.

5. Signup to Receive DLC Communication

Join the mailing list to receive all DLC related information, including events and updates on the organization. Visit DLCenters.org and scroll down to the bottom of the page to enter your name and email address, which will add you to our communications list.

6. Host a Supply Drive

DLC provides services to many clients that need items such as, clothing, hygiene products and other essentials. There are also clients who can benefit from supplies related to their treatment, but they cannot afford. Your Mission Teams may consider organizing a collection of much needed supplies including, but not limited to:

· Toiletries: shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste/toothbrushes, soap, toilet paper, combs

· Clothing: new or lightly used shirts, pants, socks, sweatshirts (no drawstrings or zippers)

· Art supplies: paint, marker, pencils, paper, journals, sketchpads

· Bedding: blankets, sleeping bags, pillows, tents

· Bibles, motivational books, notepads

· Gift cards to purchase clothing, food and additional needs

7. Mind Your Mind with DLC

This ongoing initiative provides articles and educational resources to help individuals prioritize their wellbeing, while also addressing the wellbeing of their family, friends, neighbors, and community. Each quarter focuses on an important topic related to mental wellness, ranging from children’s mental health to holistic and spiritual wellness. Visit DLCMindYourMind.org to learn more and to also sign up for our Mind Your Mind e-newsletters.

For more information, visit DLCMindfulCompassion.org to submit your contact information and a member of our team will reach out. Thank you for considering these opportunities and please let us know if there are other ways you would like to get involved!
